If my silence spoke
it would show you restraint
born out of love and pain
knowing words spoken in anger
are seldom truly meant

If my silence spoke
it would show you patience
when countless days were spent
waiting for some moments with you
and countless others wasted

If my silence spoke
it would show you love
waiting to be received
for when you recognize
for you, it is meant to be

If my silence spoke
it would show you need
to be understood and accepted
to feel my absence
to come to me open-hearted

If my silence spoke
it would show you pride
for the person you are
for the love we share
it is worth all

Our bond
has seen all seasons
passed rough weather
tested to its limit
twisted with words
hurt with pain
soaked with tears
lashed to with anger
tugged at seeking forgiveness
wrapped around us with love
matured with each day
kinder after each fray
surrendering vulnerable bits
taking strength from memories
the connection goes deeper now
awareness grows firm roots
with each passing day
we will find sanctuary
in each other
with time and love
paving the way

In search of acceptance

The pain crops up
time and again
gently throbbing
in untouchable places
restless reminders
of forgotten memories
of broken smiles
by words that hurt
it is the baggage
we carry within
for being vulnerable
but fools we are not
the search will not fail
there will be those rare ones
for whom our quirkiness
will be okay

The words they won’t come out often
if they do, always in staggered form
they know the unsettled feeling inside
is impossible to shape or describe
they know some choices when you make
the door behind is shut, only way ahead
a scary thought most of the time
though the choice made is not bad
but life cannot remain standstill
even if you wish for it to be, sometimes
so let me come to peace with this phase
let the flow take me to places
that I cannot now begin to imagine
standing here at a crossroad in life
let the hope of unknown be my guide
